Welcome Newsletter from Mrs. Gross on August 19:

    Dear Parents,

I wanted to take a few minutes to welcome you and your child into my classroom family. I am so excited to have your child in my class this year.

I’ve been anxiously preparing the classroom for weeks. It has to be just right for all my students. Our lessons and activities have been centered around learning the rules and procedures of the classroom, but the children are having fun at the same time. Your child is learning how to organize the classroom, putting things back where they go. Everything in our classroom has a place, and it stays in the same place all year, so that children can find things and put them away more easily. During the first few weeks of school, children explore almost all of the main materials in our classroom while learning rules for using them. After our first week together I’m so excited to tell you that your children are doing a fantastic job.

I’m not big on worksheets so not much will be coming home unless it’s Art. I
believe that children learn best when they are actively engaged in creative and fun-filled learning experiences. Creative movement, art, dramatic play, cooking and music develop our students’ communication and critical thinking skills. Rich, diverse and constantly changing, our learning environment is based on the children’s emerging interests, ideas and questions.

Here is what I want you to know about me:

I want you to know that working with children isn’t just how I earn a paycheck. It is my life’s work. Teaching children is something I will look back on as one of the biggest privileges of my life. I cherish all the little moments that your child will experience in my classroom.

I want you to know that you and I are a team. My promise is to care for your child to the best of my ability, but ultimately I am not perfect. I will make mistakes. As hard as I try, I will inevitably miss an argument on the playground or forget to tell you something that happened that day. Please don’t hesitate to let me know when there is a problem. I genuinely want this year to be great for your child and for you. Here are some pictures of what we did this week.

Please feel free to talk to me about any questions or concerns you may have. I value your partnership in your child’s education and look forward to connecting with you.

look forward to an amazing school year!
